Description: A celebration of the Goddess of love and beauty in the classical Western tradition – Aphrodite (or Venus as the Romans named her). The design combines the fractured image of this eternal figure with familiar patterns, roundels and motifs that evoke the memory of a golden age. This depiction was chosen to suggest the passage of time – like the Venus de Milo in the Louvre, Paris. Beauty speaks to us down the ages, transcending language and cultural barriers – timeless, comforting and offering an aspiration within all human beings. The use of black and white, for this uncomplicated but profound image, was chosen to align with the simple aesthetic concepts of Ancient Greek visual art as often seen in their decorated pottery.
